SCHEDULE (tentative)
UPDATE 03/26/2019
Hopefully you all were able to read-up on the WHO, NIH, and CDC information about COVID-19. I will leave it there for you in case you didn't get a change to read-up on it : )
As this pandemic is beginning to ramp up we are encouraging you all to follow Governor Whitmer's "Stay home, stay safe" order. (only leaving for necessities like food and medicine.)
While this is a stressful time, there are things that you can do to help in this crisis! We have been asked by Heritage Community (a senior living facility) to be pen pals while residents are unable to have any visitors and cannot leave their rooms.
There has also been a call for homemade masks (made of fabric). These masks would go to Bronson and Borgess Hospitals as they are running out of masks. The purpose is to extend the life of the medical mask, which will be underneath the fabric one. If you or someone in your home is sick please do NOT do this. We want to reduce the spread of any illness.
In efforts to help we have also donated our classroom supply of PPE!
Drop off locations for masks
Drop off time for Kalamazoo County Health M-F 9 AM-4 PM
NOTE: Your parents must approve that you can go to these drop off locations. Travel for mask drop off is allowed under the "Stay home, stay safe" order.
What would I do to reduce my risk?
Any of these opportunities would count towards your Lead4change project that was assigned at the beginning of the year. (This is regardless of what your topic is.)
Also, feel free to contact me with any other opportunities you find that are similar to these (something you can do from home).
I will continue to communicate with you via Group-me and Weebly.
Quote of the day
"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." Anne Frank
03/17/2020
Be Safe! Wash your hands! Cover your cough! Avoid being around those who are sick or in groups larger than 10. Only go out if you absolutely have to.
Links to the WHO, NIH, CDC website is below for more information.
Some things to ponder while reading.
Class is canceled until further notice. Currently April 13th.
We are currently working out what the possibilities are for this time period. Note that no graded assignments or new material will be given during this period.
In the mean time it is a good idea to practice your old med term, finish your everfi, finish any missing assignments, and review the cardiovascular system. There is a documentary on Netflix called Pandemic that may be of interest during this time.

Some things to ponder while reading.
- What are the signs and symptoms?
- Who is most at risk?
- Is one race more likely to get the virus?
- How can you break the chain of infection for this particular pathogen?
- What type of pathogen is it?
- Can we use antibiotics to fight it?
- What is flattening the curve?
- How does this help?
- Looking at the numbers, is there still time for this to work?
- Are these numbers accurate?
- What developmental stage is the vaccine at?
- Once developed who should get the vaccine first?
- What isolation precaution should be used if someone is positive for COVID-19?
- A healthcare worker is required to report if a person is positive for COVID-19 (because it is a communicable disease). Does this break HIPAA policy?
- Should healthcare workers receive hazard pay?
- If a facility (like a store) did not shut down are they legally liable if someone contracts COVID-19 (after they went to the store)?
- Should all COVID-19 health expenses be covered regardless of health insurance? How will this be paid?
- Who works for these organizations and what are their job duties?
